Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer - September 15, 2009

The Radioactive Chicken Heads wrote and recorded the title song for an upcoming horror/comedy feature film, Atom the Amazing Zombie Killer.

The movie, directed by Richard Taylor, has been described as The Big Lebowski meets Dawn of the Dead, hence all the zombie and bowling references in the theme song.

The filming is still in production but you can hear the new song on our myspace or facebook music players right now!

Show review from Big Wheel Magazine - June 21, 2009

Our show from last week got reviewed by Jo Problems in Big Wheel Magazine and it's a good one!! Check it out:

There are many arguments about what punk rock is "supposed" to be. Angry? Political? Violent? Silly? What often gets lost in these arguments is that at it’s heart, punk rock is supposed to be fun. Saturday night at the Knitting Factory was probably the most fun you can have with your clothes on.

Opening the show were Los Angeles’ very own The Radioactive Chicken Heads. The Radioactive Chicken Heads are a group of mutated chickens, fronted by a mutant carrot, and supported by a tomato on guitar. You know, like any other band. The Radioactive Chicken Heads avoid the common pitfall of so many gimmicky bands, though.

They’ve got good songs. No, scratch that, they’ve got great songs. With sort of a metal-ish Punk rock sound, they were definitely right at home sharing a bill with Green Jelly. The crowd responded well to the music, and even better to the lithely attractive "Wikkan Chicken" who came off stage to dance with audience members. If you’re not comfortable being freaked by a mutant chicken in a witch hat, you might want to stay home. The band isn’t all shock value though, they managed to squeeze in some public service announcements about the dangers of liquid fat, and the benefits of eating kids, as well as an excellent cover of The Who’s "Boris the Spider" (complete with dancing… er… cockroach. Just go with it.) before their set was cut short. If you’re looking for something brilliant, funny, and addictively catchy, head over to http://radioactivechickenheads.com to check out the tour schedule, or their mp3 page.

This is the kind of vehicle we need for the next tour....

Why chickens really cross the road - May 30, 2009

The truth is out...

Glow in the dark monkeys?? - May 27, 2009

It looks like the Radioactive Chicken Heads aren't the only "glow in the dark" mutants in town anymore...

According to today's news, scientists have genetically engineered monkeys by splicing jellyfish DNA into their embryos so that their hair roots, skin and blood glow fluorescent green under UV lights.

See any resemblance?

Count Smokula meets the Radioactive Chicken Heads - May 26, 2009

Fellow freak of nature, Count Smokula, a 496 year old accordion playing vampire, joined us onstage to play his "Zombie" song at the Amoeba Music/KXLU undergrounDNOUS festival in Hollywood in 2008. Now we have the proof....

Extreme Gong - 1998 - February 9, 2009

Digging through old VHS tapes and found this blast from mutant chicken past. Our very first television appearance wasn't Tyra, it was the "Extreme Gong Show" back on Halloween 1998.

Yes, we got gonged but at that point, there was no stopping us.....

Band Name Book - February 2, 2009

The Radioactive Chicken Heads are featured in the new Band Name Book by Noel Hudson. This book is a collection of some the strangest band names with explanations on how/why the bands got their names.

Our "Growing Mold" album even shows up on the book's cover!

Here's our quote from the entry on the Radioactive Chicken Heads from page 25, the chicken band page.

"We were forced to be named the Radioactive Chicken Heads because of new government regulations which require all radioactive farm products to labeled clearly."

Two thousand and nine - January 1, 2009

Happy new year!! Thanks everyone for making last year one of our best yet.

In 2008, the Radioactive Chicken Heads released the Music For Mutants cd, filmed the "Badd Bunny" music video (coming soon), and played over 70 puppet shows across the USA with Green Jello and Rosemary's Billygoat on our first ever tour. It was crazy.

We got a lot more Radioactivity planned for 2009: new videos, a new track for the upcoming Barry Louis Polisar tribute album ("I Wanna Be a Dog"), another tour, and an all new Chicken Heads album is in the works too.

Keep on cluckin' in 2009....RCH
